Amy, The Boredom Buster

One of the fun activities available

Well-being, engagement, connection to others and enhanced care. These are all the result of what our residents feel after taking part in the variety of fun activities planned by Amy Brott, the boredom buster.

At Ascension Health homes, we recognize that boredom and loneliness are sometimes a fear of individuals transitioning from independent living to an assisted living environment. We recognize that activities tailored to the likes and desires of our residents can combat these fears.

How can we be sure the activities meet the residents desires? “I ask for the residents opinions and strive to make those ideas come true,” replies Amy. “ I collaborate with the other House Managers, Heidey Merryman and Kaz Irwin, to make sure we are planning events that will bring happiness and fulfillment to the residents.”

Each home has fun daily activities of the residents choice coordinated by the homes House Manager. Some play cards such as SkipBo® and Uno®. Several enjoy adult coloring books, chess, and socializing with others in the home over coffee. Others appreciate baking favorite treats with staff assistance, watching a favorite TV show, shopping or eating out in the community. Our more active residents work in the community, go the YMCA, and/or attend Senior Activity groups such as Senior Neighbors or Methodist House.

In addition to these options, Amy likes to plan events that give the residents something to remember and talk about to their friends and family. We recently attended a Tiger’s game in Detroit, MI for our sports fans. In October we are planning a Fall Party with Arts & Crafts, great food and music from the 50’s!!

All of these activities and events help bust boredom and enhance the warm-hearted, engaging care for each of the residents. Stay tuned for posts and pictures showing the fun we all have together!! We are always looking for volunteers to help. Apply at Employment Opportunities for consideration!
